1 comment:

  1. Thanks for the calendar of the ‘Peace Festival’. I'm delighted to see there is so much verbal peace activity, but it seems to lack focus. A month of peace talk seems to me counter-productive. People are too busy to go out every other night to talk peace. The peace movement has to come together and find a FOCUS for its objective, i.e. something practical that all factions can support, and pursue it energetically.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to attend a dozen peace events over a month, especially as I've heard it all before and have myself been a vociferous and active pacifist since I became of age. I've now reached an age [90] when I have to use my energies judiciously. If I'm invited to participate in some meaningful peace event, I'm more than willing to oblige, but to listen to people say what I've said and/or thought umpteen times over a lifetime is no longer a reasonable option.

But you know all this. We've talked about the subject often enough, and my poetry is full of denunciations of war and exposés of warmongers. Across the Sun's Warp, for instance, is an uncompromising indictment of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. I could also see myself offering an evening of shorter pieces about militarism and capitalism. Anyway, you know where I stand, and if there is an event in the coming days that you think I should attend, I'll be there—so long as I'm not otherwise committed.
